History
Since 1972, the Toronto Flying Tigers have been dedicated to promoting a sense of community, camaraderie and athleticism in the Asian community through competitive outdoor volleyball. Over the past 38 years, our community group has grown to engage over 1700 members. Involving Asian athletes between the ages of 15 and 30 in the GTA, our men’s and women’s teams compete in a series of tournaments throughout the summer. The final event is the Annual North American Asian Invitational Volleyball Circuit, a 3-day tournament held over the Labour Day weekend and a cultural phenomenon since the late 1930s.
The Flying Tigers Men's team maintained the circuit title in the 80's, and the Women's A team defended the championship in the 90's. This highly anticipated event attracts over 2500 people from across North America and will take place in Boston, USA, this year. In preparation for the NACIVT, our teams hold fundraising events that mobilize the greater volleyball community such as beach volleyball tournaments, golf tournaments, and raffle draws. Annual participation in these events total over 750 people from the greater Toronto area.
